Lleu Lleu Lake

The Lleu Lleu Lake, which in the Mapuche language means to "melt" or "crumble", is located 12 meters above sea level and 14 kms southwest of Contulmo. It has a surface of 4,300 hectares.

This solitary lake with steep edges is located in the middle of the Nahuelbuta Mountains. It´s considered the purest lake in Latin America, with its waters connected to the ocean.

There is a bridge with a gate over the river that connects the lake to the ocean. From the gate a small motor boat can be taken for a ride around the lake and its four arms that run between the steep hills and solitary beaches surrounded by native forest that become water-logged in the winter. This lake is characterized by its natural beauty, different from Lanalhue Lake where we find more tourist influence.

Among the most popular attractions in this place we can find Puerto Choque Lolcura, Huilinco, and the source of the Lleu Lleu River. The lake is good for water sports and boating. There is an abundance of high quality fish such as trout, salmon and mackerel due to some of the most virgin waters of the country. We can also find cabins and campgrounds here for easy enjoyment.
