The art-lovin' Price Elector of Düsseldorf, Johan Wilhelm, who reigned from 1679 to 1716, lies buried in this huge, white and gold, early baroque style church. Inside there is twenty two life-size sculptures of the apostles and other biblical figures. It's hugely popular for its noon sermons and night time organ concerts.

Heinrich Heine fans can get their literary kicks at the Heinrich Heine Institut where letters, portraits, first editions and manuscripts document this famed Düsseldorfer's career. His house at Bolkerstrasse 53 now contains a literary pub called Schnabelewopski.

K20 Kunstsammlung am Grabbeplatz

Behind its undulating, shiny black façade, the K20 Kunstsammlung am Grabbeplatz houses paintings and sculpture by some of the best artists of the 20th century, including Picasso, Braque, Chagall and Modigliani, German Expressionists such as Kirchner, Beckmann and Grosz, and a large collection of works by Paul Klee.
