Almere

Almere has something few other cities in Holland possess: plenty of space. As a result, the suburbs are spacious and all located in natural surroundings. From each of the city's residential areas you are in a wood in a matter of minutes. The many city canals that crisscross the suburbs give Almere a pastoral ambience.

ARCHITECTURE

Almere was built in the 1970s. Not until 1976 did the first inhabitants move into the newly built homes. A city which does not boast any historical buildings or monuments has to offer visitors and citizens something else, Almere has realized various architectural tours de force.

EVENT CITY

Almere does its utmost to build a reputation as an event city. Lovers of theater enjoy the Heineken Music Below the Sea Almere event, the Theater Festival and the Almere Harbor Festival. Almere also caters to lovers of sports. The city annually organizes the Almere Holland Triathlon and the World Cup Powerboat Races.

SCENIC BEAUTY AND WATER SPORTS

In addition to all this, Almere prides itself on stunning scenic beauty and many beaches. The various walking and cycling paths take you to the most beautiful spots in and around Almere. Lovers of water sports are spoilt for choice. They can go diving, angling, sailing and wake-boarding at a Cable Center.
