Baarlo

The villages of Baarlo and Maasbree make up the municipality of Maasbree. Maasbree is a rural community with well over 12,000 inhabitants. Baarlo is a pleasant village on the river Maas, with a rich history. This is evident when looking at one of the many castles in the surroundings. D?Erp Castle, for instance, dates back to 1473. However, the castle itself is private property and can not be visited.

LAND VAN MAAS AND PEEL

The northern part of the province of Limburg, the area between National Park De Groote Peel and the river Maas, has a unique landscape. Wooded sandy soils alternate with pastoral villages, vast fields, forests, meadows and fens. This area has a great variety of plants and animals, especially birds. The many crucifixes and chapels in this area are typical for the province of Limburg. Hikers and bikers in particular will truly enjoy exploring this area of great scenic beauty.
