Prado

Paseo del Prado. Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays closed.

Certainly one of the most important collections of paintings worldwide. There are special rooms for masters like Goya, Velazquez, El Greco, Zurbarán, Murillo and Tizian, as well as for representants of the Flemish school.

Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza

Paseo del Prado, 8. Open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays closed.

In this museum, which was inaugurated in 1993, is exposed one of the most important private arts collections.

National Museum Reina Sofía

Santa Isabel, 52. Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday closed.

This modern building featuring interesting expositions made complete the "Arts Triangle of Prado" in 1993.

National Museum of Decorative Arts

National Museum fof Artistic Reproductions

Outfitted like a 19th century palace, this museum exposes objects of the epoch of Romantic.

Museum Sorolla

Many works of the great painter Sorolla, alongside with sculptures of various artists and objects of popular art.

National Archaeological Museum

Objects from prehistorical time until middle-ages. Most famous is the prehistorical Lady from Elche.

Museum of Natural Science

Mineralogic Museum

In the geologic faculty of the University, visits after personal arrangement..

Ethnological Museum

Great collection of objects from the five continents. Specially interesting are the mummies of Guanches, the aborigins of Canary Islands.

America Museum

Reyes Católicos, 6

Great collection of objects mainly from South America, among them arts of the Incas. Most important are the Codex Trocortesano and the Treasure of the Quimbayas.

Museum of Navigation

Numerous models of historical ships. Highlights are the rooms dedicated to the discovery of america and the battle of Lepanto.
