Western Isles

Aros Park

Aros Park offers a fine mosaic of experiences. There are wonderful views of Tobermory and Calve Island, and over the Sound of Mull to the cragged faces of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula.

Lews Castle

Lews Castle built by the Mathesons in the 19th century, on the West Side of Stornoway Harbour. Sir James Matheson who purchased the island in 1844 built mock-Tudor folly in the 19th century.

Rothesay Castle

Rothesay Castle is one of Scotland’s oldest castles; it sits in the centre of Rothesay, and was built in a circular design in the 13th century by the Stewart kings, although it is claimed that a castle has been here since 1098, built by the Viking Magnus Barelegs.

Torosay Castle and Gardens

Torosay Castle, built in the Scottish baronial style in 1858, combines elegance and grandeur, while at the same time being informal and homely. A unique combination of formal terraces, statuary and dramatic West Highland scenery makes Torosay a spectacular setting which, together with a mild climate results in superb specimens of unusual and rare plants.
