Beaumaris Castle

Beaumaris Castle on the Island of Anglesey is the great-unfinished masterpiece. It was built as one of the ’iron ring’ of North Wales’s castles by the English monarch Edward I, to stamp his authority on the Welsh but it was never finished.

Conwy Castle

Conwy Castle was built in only 7 years. After his conquest of Wales in 1283, Edward I set out to hold down the country with a series of magnificent castles of which Conwy was one of the largest.

Conwy Falls

Conwy Falls is situated in a ’Site of Special Scientific Interest’, just near Betws-y-Coed. The area offers spectacular waterfalls and scenic woodland walks.

Criccieth Castle

Criccieth Castle is a prominent North Wales landmark, positioned on a high mound overlooking the town of Criccieth and the sea of Tremadog Bay. The Welsh leader Owain Glyn Dwr captured and burnt the castle back in 1404 and the castle still bears signs of scorching.

Llanrwst Almshouses & Museum Trust

The Llanrwst Almshouses are Jacobean buildings set in the historic quarter of Llanrwst, and now housing a community museum.

Menai Straits Bridge

The famous Menai Straits Bridge is an attraction in its own right. Thomas Telford’s chain bridge over the Menai Straits was completed in 1825 and quickly became an attraction for technically inclined tourists.

Penrhyn Castle

Penrhyn Castle is a dramatic neo-Norman Castle located between Snowdonia and the Menai Strait. The castle contains fascinating ’Norman’ style furniture panelling and plasterwork, all designed by the architect, and houses an outstanding collection of paintings by old masters.

Plas Nweydd

Home of the Marquess of Anglesey, Plas Nweydd is situated on the bank of the Menai Strait with magnificent views of Snowdonia. This elegant 18th Century house by James Wyatt contains Rex Whistler’s largest painting and an exhibition of his work.
